Some traders and apprentices at the International Electrical Market, Obosi/Onitsha, Anambra State, on Saturday, reportedly protested against a trader for allegedly settling his apprentice with N100,000, nine years after serving him. WEEKDAYS learnt that the protest took place in front of the man’s shop, as the group sang solidarity songs and chanted, ‘Enough is enough; the revolution has started.’ They were said to have demanded that the master treat his apprentice fairly by increasing the payment, adding that the apprentice did not deserve a meagre N100,000 for nine years of service. In his reaction, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Anambra Broadcasting Service, Chief Uche Nworah, said the organisation had noted the abuse in the apprenticeship system and was partnering the Awka Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture to convene a summit on Igbo apprenticeship.
6. Motorist seeks Lagos task force officers’ prosecution for perjury
A motorist, Adeolu Oyinlola, whose driver, Emem Sunday, was prosecuted by the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit, aka task force, for allegedly passing a uni-directional road (one way), has urged the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo, to prosecute the agency’s witnesses for perjury. WEEKDAYS had reported that Oyinlola’s driver, while driving him on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway on August 14, 2021, was accosted by one of four policemen around the BOC Gases area, Oshodi, for allegedly passing one way. According to Oyinlola, there was no indication on the road that it was one way and efforts to explain to the policemen that there was no such indication proved abortive. Oyinlola, who is the Executive Director of the Advocacy for Societal Rights Advancement and Development Initiative, alleged that his vehicle was impounded after he refused to part with the money demanded by the officers. Sunday was later charged before a mobile court on one count bordering on driving against traffic before Magistrate L.K.J. Layeni. Layeni, while delivering judgement on November 25, 2021, acquitted Emem of the charge and ordered the release of the vehicle. The car owner, in a letter by his lawyer and addressed to the state attorney-general and the director of public prosecutions, noted that the prosecution witnesses, Inspector Evale Samson and DSP Barbara Damisa, lied on oath during the trial. Oyinlola, who noted that he suffered psychological trauma, urged the state to prosecute the officers for perjury.

The Senate has said the Federal Government will have to justify the fresh demand for N3tn for the extension of the subsidy on petrol before it is approved by the National Assembly. The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Ajibola Basiru, made this known against the backdrop of the controversy surrounding the actual volume of petrol, which Nigeria consumed daily.
9. Delta man flees after quarreling with a woman and killing her husband
A middle-aged man, identified only as Oyakemeagbegha, has been accused of killing one Mr Ebitein Aperebo, in Ojobo community, in the Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State. Witnesses said the incident happened on Saturday after the suspect quarrelled with the victim’s wife. According to sources, Oyakemeagbegha, after the disagreement, proceeded to meet the woman’s husband at home to further vent his anger. It was gathered that the victim was sleeping when Oyakemeagbegha stormed the residence, woke him from sleep “and hit him to death with a 2/2 wood.” Oyakemeagbegha was said to have fled the scene after committing the crime.
10. Ogun police arrest three for vandalising telecoms mast
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three men for allegedly vandalising and stealing from the mast of a telecommunications company in Ota, in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state. The suspects, Kabiru Olusola, 27; Taye Daniel, 43; and Afeez Balogun, 47, were arrested following a distress call received by policemen attached to the Atan Ota police divisional headquarters.
