The 22-year-old fashion designer, Oluwabamise Ayanwole, who went missing on 27th February after boarding a Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) service, from Chevron heading to Oshodi in Lagos state, has been found dead.
The whereabouts of Bamise were finally unraveled by residents around Ebute #JusticeForBamise #MoreGoldenGistCreator in Lagos Island, who disclosed she was tossed out of a BRT bus half-naked with her private parts missing.
The Lagos Police Command also confirmed the death of the 22-year-old fashion designer, Oluwabamise Ayanwole who boarded the Lagos state-owned transport service at Chevron Bus Stop, Lekki, en route Oshodi but never got to her destination.
Bamise was said to have boarded the bus at 7:30pm and became suspicious when the yet-to-be-identified driver told her to sit at one of the back seats. According to a source, Bamise, who became uncomfortable, sent out voice notes and a short clip to express her concern to one of her friends.
“On her way home, the driver picked up two men and one woman. This made her calm down a bit. Then she told us she would alight at Oworonshoki. We called her and noticed something was unusual about the way she was talking. We tried to reach out to her again but her phone was unreachable; then we waited a bit, thinking it was probably (due to a low battery, only for her parents to contact us on Sunday that Bamise wasn’t home yet and since then we have been at the Oshodi BRT Terminal 3.
We were told to sit and wait for the driver to come. The driver did not show up,” the source added. In a series of voice notes exchanges between Bamise and a friend, which were shared on social media, she was heard telling the friend in Yoruba that the bus stopped to pick her up but did not pick other passengers. Sensing danger, she was said to have made a short video showing the silhouette of a driver and what looked like the vehicle number.
Her disappearance raised concerns especially as her friend made public their communication when Bamise entered the bus and expressed fears over the conduct of the driver.
When the news of her disappearance became public, the police immediately arrested the guarantors of the BRT driver who has since been at large. It was gathered that detectives had gone to the last known address of the suspect said to be from Ekiti State but were told that he moved out about a year ago.
According to a Twitter user, Akinwunmi King, Bamise’s brother was at Ebute Ero Police Station where he was shown a picture of the body and he confirmed it was his sister’s. He also shared a screenshot of messages he received, which indicated that Bamise’s private parts were harvested inside the BRT bus before she was tossed out.
Meanwhile, Lagos State police have arrested the driver of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) bus in which Oluwabamise Ayanwole was allegedly kidnapped. “Runaway driver of the BRT bus has just been arrested by the police,” a police source told reporters.
