According to reports, former Nasarawa state Governor, Senator Abdullahi Adamu has been agreed as the consensus national chairman of the party.
Prior to this report, there has been crisis in the party over the choice of Adamu, who has the backing of the president, as the consensus candidate.
Some stakeholders in the party including Governors and chairmanship aspirants were said not to be in support of the president’s choice.
However, after separate meetings of the president with Governors and chairmanship aspirants at the Aso rock villa two days ago, reports claims both the Governors and the chairmanship aspirants have agreed to align with the president’s choice.

A unity list is expected to be worked upon which will contain names of of those endorsed as consensus for the various NWC posts.
However, it appears some chairmanship aspirants who have been meeting after Adamu was endorsed may not commit to the consensus arrangement of the party.
Apart from Adamu six other aspirants: Senator Tanko Al-Makura, Senator Sani Musa, George Akume, Saliu Mustapha, Abdulaziz Yari and Mohammed Etsu were in the race for the APC national chairman position.

According to the Vanguard, while one of the aspirants reportedly advised his colleagues to cave in to the president’s consensus choice, two others were said to have proposed that they join hands to field one of them to challenge Adamu on Saturday.
If the aspirants chose to go with the second option, the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Atiku Bagudu has already said any aspirants who does not agree to the consensus won’t be stopped from contesting.
However, I think it would be better for them to align with the wishes of the President, who is the leader of the party.
