The 2023 general election is a few months away, and political parties have submitted the names of their candidates to the Electoral Commission.
Presidential, governorship, and parliamentary elections will be held during the 2023 general election. However, there are eight states where gubernatorial elections will not be held in 2023.
The reason for this is that the tenure of the governors of the states will not expire on May 29, 2023, like their colleagues in other states. The states include
1. Ekiti
The state governorship election was held on June 18, 2022. The winner of the election, Biodun Oyebanji, will take over from Kayode Fayemi soon.
2. Ondo
The state gubernatorial election was held in 2020, and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu was elected for a second term.
3. Osun
The state governorship election will be held in July 2022.
4. Edo
Edo’s gubernatorial election was held in 2020. Godwin Obaseki won the election.
5. Bayelsa
The Bayelsa State governorship election was held in November 2019. The current governor’s tenure will expire in 2024.
6. Anambra
The state gubernatorial election was held in November 2021.
7. Imo
The current governor of the state took over in January 2020. His tenure will expire in January 2024.
8. Kogi
The state governorship election was held in November 2019. Governor Yahaya Bello’s tenure will expire in 2024.
