Amid ongoing speculations that some members of the G5 Governors are contemplating throwing their weight behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2023 general elections, the ruling party’s vice presidential candidate, Alhaji Kashim Shettima has come out to express his optimism on having Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and his allies working with the APC.
Speaking with journalists shortly after an event on Friday, Shettima described the Rivers Governor as a force of nature whose support will be a game changer for the APC ahead of next year’s polls. Going further, the former Borno Governor insisted that not only does Wike and his allies share the share same political ideologies with the APC, but a potential partnership between the G5 governors and the ruling party will be for the benefit of Nigerians.
He said; “Wike is a force of nature and we believe that whatever binds us as a nation, supersedes what divides us. Politics should be a source of national unity and not a cause for conflict. If their support materializes, which I hope and believe that it will, then it is going to be a game changer. We believe that the country is going to be better off. We (APC and G5 governors) are not strange bedfellows at all. We are contemporaries and we have cause to unite for the growth of the nation. It is a welcome development if it materializes.”
