In Dei-Dei town, situated off Kubwa-Zuba Road in the Federal Capital Territory’s Bwari area council, shock rippled through the community over the weekend due to the abduction of more than 23 residents.
Weekdays Smart News reports that the kidnappers, reportedly clad in military attire, struck the livestock layout area near the renowned Abuja livestock market, conducting their operation covertly around 8 pm, according to locals.
A similar incident unfolded the following day at the Arab Road residential area in Kubwa town, where seven residents were abducted. These kidnappers, thought to be associated with the Dei-Dei group, staged a similar abduction. While some individuals were released, others remained in captivity, hinting at either a gesture of goodwill or a demand for ransom.
Aminatu Mustapha, a resident in one of the housing estates, recounted her harrowing experience of being taken along with her children. Despite being freed along the way, the traumatic event left its mark. Ibrahim Galadima, the community head and security vigilante leader, swiftly alerted authorities and mobilized efforts to track the kidnappers.
The kidnappers, as per gathered information, left the area in separate batches after targeting relatively new rental facilities. Eyewitnesses like Shamsu Armaya’u Muhammad, a security guard, detailed the intrusion, highlighting the forceful entry and the abduction of occupants.
Even a retired military captain fell victim to this ordeal, emphasizing the confusion between the kidnappers and patrolling security officers. The armed group took some residents from his residence, including a serving police officer, while others were coerced into joining them en route.
In Kubwa’s Arab Road area, a similar incident occurred, with some victims released while others remained captive. The perpetrators, also in military attire, abducted individuals from multiple households, emphasizing the ongoing threat in the region.
Amid these terrifying events, the FCT Police Command denied the reported kidnappings, asserting their commitment to bolstering security measures during and after the festive season.
