A community in Chibok, Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State has reported the abduction of over a dozen girls by unidentified gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram/ ISWAP terrorists.
The terrorists reportedly broke into the town on Thursday night after sporadic shooting in different directions.
Many civilians reportedly fled to the bush and surrounding villages when the terrorists struck at Pemi village near Chibok.
According to a report by WEEK DAYS, the insurgents torched not less than 20 houses, including a branch of EYN Church, a source revealed.
A resident who spoke on the condition of anonymity revealed that the head of vigilantes in the community was the main target as the local guards had waged a relentless war against the insurgents in the axis.
The resident said: “It was a sad day for us in Pemi on Thursday, insurgents came in large numbers and started raining bullets in Pemi, they captured our vigilante commander and slit his throat, many houses were burnt down including EYN church.”
A member of the vigilante group who joined the local guards that engaged the insurgents in a gun battle disclosed that eight of those abducted escaped but 17 girls were still in captivity.
“We are deeply worried over the missing young girls. As we speak, not less than 17 young girls are with them,” he said.
Recall that over 100 girls among the 276 students of Chibok Girls Secondary School kidnapped by the terrorists in 2014 are still missing till date.

President Muhammadu Buhari has reassured residents of Kaduna State of the resolve of the Nigerian Armed Forces, under his watch, to crush terrorists and criminal gangs operating in the State and other parts of Nigeria.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in a statement on Friday, said the President stated this at a State Banquet to commemorate his official visit to Kaduna State.
President Buhari commended the support Kaduna State had been providing to security operatives, noting the establishment of a Ministry dedicated to Internal security.
‘‘I wish to assure the people and government of Kaduna State that the Federal Government is doing its utmost to contain and crush the terrorists that have been menacing our citizens and their property in parts of the country.
‘‘On behalf of the Federal Government, I commend the efforts of the Kaduna State Government to respond to the demands of development.
‘‘The relationship between our tiers of government represents an instance of successful collaboration between the national and state governments for progress, peace and prosperity.
‘‘I urge Malam Nasir El-Rufai to push on and not relent in his efforts to accelerate change and progress in Kaduna State,’’ he said.
Everything Is In Bad Shape Under Your Government — Ortom Slams Buhari
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has berated the achievements of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) since it took over power from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015.
According to Ortom, the security architecture of Nigeria, the economy and everything are in bad shape under the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.
Governor Ortom stated this in his remark shortly after signing the Benue State’s amended grazing bill into law at the government house in Makurdi.
The Benue Governor in his remark also accused President Buhari of neglecting his state in the scheme of things so much that the citizens have not felt the impact of his administration.
Ortom said: “Mr President, Benue State is not enjoying your government that is why even your party members from APC are all coming to PDP because they are not sure of being part of your government.
“Every day, even yesterday APC members in the House of Assembly have decamped to PDP because the impact is not there. The pains are too much, the economy is in bad shape, the security is in bad shape, everything is in bad shape,” he said.
Governor Ortom pointed out that the 5000 bags of rice showcased in the Abuja pyramid to indicate that the administration of Buhari was making headway did not depict reality.
He maintained that the APC government has not achieved anything. Ortom noted that since he had been barred from seeing the President, the only means to communicate the truth which he had told him in the past and would continue to tell him is through the media.
Reacting, the state Chairman-elect of APC, Comrade Austin Agada, said Ortom’s comments about the present Federal Government could be best described, “as someone not in tune with the reality of what is on ground.”
