1. Nigerian Police Confirm DCP Abba Kyari’s Arrest, Four Others, Hand Them Over To Drugs Agency, NDLEA
The Nigeria Police Force says it has arrested, Abba Kyari and four other police officers for their involvement in an alleged case of criminal conspiracy. Other offences listed against them are discreditable, unethical, and unprofessional conduct, official corruption and tampering with exhibits in a case of illicit drug trafficking involving a perpetual transnational drug cartel. The arrest of the officers was a sequel to pieces of information received from the leadership of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on 10th February 2022. Acting spokesman of the force, Muyiwa Adejobi, a Chief Superintendent of Police confirmed this in a statement issued Monday afternoon. “They were arrested on Monday for their involvement in an alleged case of criminal conspiracy, discreditable, unethical and unprofessional conduct, official corruption, and tampering with exhibits in a case of illicit drug trafficking involving a perpetual transnational drug cartel,” Adejobi said. The police said it had handed them over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Kyari’s arrest came hours after the NDLEA had declared him wanted over alleged links with an international drug cartel. Femi Babafemi, spokesperson of the NDLEA, had said the anti-drug agency decided to declare Kyari wanted because he did not honour the invitation sent to him.

The group’s President-General, Prof George Obiozor, who spoke in Owerri, Imo state, said that “wherever the country picks its President from in 2023 will send a strong message to Ndigbo.”
3. Federal Capital Territory Administration To Demolish Official Residences Of Senate President, Speaker For Violating Master Plan.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has revealed plans to demolish the official residences of the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives, presently under construction around the Three Arms Zone. This was made known by the Coordinator of Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Umar Shuaibu, who appeared before the House of Representatives Adhoc Committee investigating the real estate sector in the FCT, Tribune reports. According to Shuaibu, the ongoing construction contravenes the Abuja Master Plan. He noted that notices were issued by the FCT Administration, informing the management of the National Assembly of an imminent demolition of the four massive structures that will house the Deputy President of the Senate, as well as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. He said: “There are so many buildings and structures that don’t conform with our Master Plan. These structures and buildings are everywhere. There are some in the Three Arms Zone. “The official residences of the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives don’t conform with our Master Plan. They’re located within the Three Arms Zone.” “We have written to notify them of the violation of Abuja Master Plan. We are waiting to move in soon. They’ve been duly notified by us,” he added..
4. ASUU begins one month warning strike.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Monday began a four-week strike following the Federal Government’s failure to meet its demands. The National President of ASUU, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, disclosed this during a press conference at the University of Lagos, Akoka, after the union’s National Executive Committee meeting, which started on Friday. NANS threatens nationwide protest as ASUU declares fresh strike The National Association of Nigerian Students on Monday condemned the strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. NANS President, Asefon Sunday, in a statement, expressed “great disappointment” at the “comprehensive and total” four-week strike declared by ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, on Monday. Asefon slammed the Federal Government and the ASUU leadership for failure to resolve their issues amicably without resort to strike. 5. SIM-NIN: Telcos lose 9.28 million Internet subscribers in one year.
A total of 9.28 million telecommunication subscribers stopped using the Internet in 2021, data from the Nigerian Communications Commission have shown. According to the regulator of the telecoms sector, the number of Internet subscribers fell to 141,617,023 in December 2021 from 150,898,122 in January 2021.
6. Self-appointed Makinde’s media aide, 25 others arrested for cyber fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested one Babawale Olayinka, a self-appointed Personal Assistant to the Oyo State Governor on Media Matters, and 25 others over alleged cyber fraud. Operatives of the anti-graft agency swooped on the suspects at the Soka area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Friday.
7. Fuel scarcity: Armed policemen deployed to control queues, commuters stranded.
Armed police officers were deployed on Monday to control the massive queues for Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, which persisted in Abuja and neighbouring Nasarawa and Niger states. It was also observed that the price of petrol increased from the N400/litre which it sold for on Sunday to about N500/litre on Monday by black marketers, who sold PMS in various locations in Abuja and neighbouring states.
